Fighting for Veterans

Steve Israel is fighting to make sure our veterans get the benefits they were promised. He helped pass legislation to increase the amount of money spent on veterans’ health care and other programs by $6.7 billion - $2.8 billion more than the budget proposed by President Bush. It was the biggest increase in veterans’ programs in our nation’s history. This overdue boost will help speed up the processing of veterans’ claims. Congressman Israel also secured more than $2.8 million in back pay for local veterans.
